(A #1 Best Seller in Motorcycle History)
It was 1929, the summer before the Great Depression, and life was good. Geography teacher Curtis E. Gould set out on his 1927 Harley Davidson to ride around the perimeter of the U.S. His purpose was to record, photograph, and report what he saw to his students, but his adventures ended up in a magazine, newspapers, and now this book. It was a 77-day journey filled with danger, beauty, and humor—a unique time seen through the eyes of one man on his motorcycle.
77 Days on a Harley Davidson A Photo Diary Account of a 1929 Trip Around the US Tim Gould Curtis Gould eBook
I had heard rumors of this epic trip and was pleasantly surprised to see it composed into a book! This is an excellent true story read of a man's travels around a unique slice of the country at a unique slice in time...The perimeter of the United States, and into Canada and Mexico in 1929 on none other than America's Harley-Davidson motorcycle! This was back before interstates when highways were mostly gravel and cars didn't go much above 45 mph. This book is a true story consisting of diary entries and pictures taken on the man's trip, so don't go into it expecting to read a novel type book. The format flows well nonetheless. It even includes how much items on the trip cost and many actual places he stopped along the way. This is very unique work, I've never seen or read about another experience like it!

77 Days on a Harley Davidson A Photo Diary Account of a 1929 Trip Around the US Tim Gould Curtis Gould eBook Reviews
A joy to read, impossible to put down, delightful book!
A more simple time, no super highways. The photos were a great glimpse into the past. I went to school with Mr. Gould's children. I very much enjoyed this book.
Loved the book. It gives a unique glimpse into a period of history that is somewhat overlooked. Wish I could have gone on the trip with him.
Great historic photos and accurate. ! Found myself wishing that the author would have added some other info and research on this rider's motorcycle specifically and of the era/cities/regions. Slighly overpriced, yet inspirational story
Very enjoyable read. I felt like I was taking this trip with him, having many visions of what it must have been like. His daily accounting of what he spent was fun to read, often renting a room for less than $1 a night! Its hard to imagine he took this trip, all alone, without todays modern conveniences of Rest Stops, Mini Marts, Fast Food and Cell Phones!
A wonderful journey around the US in 1929 - and on a hardtail, no less! Today this would be considered adventure motorcycling, riding dirt roads across the country. Back then it was just riding. Anyone who rides a motorcycle and has been on a long trip will connect with his account right away. But even if you aren't a rider, you will be taken in by his connection to the road and the people and places he encounters, and you will learn something about the geography of the time. I felt like one of his students and could tell he was super aware of how to describe his journey, so they could understand it all. And his photographs were amazing! Thank you, Tim Gould, for sharing your father's journey with the World!
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this journal of Mr. Gould's inspirational ride around the perimeter of the United States. It is incredible to think that back in the 20's, before freeways and true "paved" roads, he managed to navigate through some incredibly tough terrain. I was surprised by some of the details that Mr. Gould noted. To think that he was only spending under a dollar to sleep in motels. Of course, he had to be willing to share some of those beds with bed bugs and fleas! I would definitely recommend this book as somewhat of an insight into the 1920's and one man's 77 day ride around the states. Thank you for sharing, Tim!
